for_cpstr() compares two Fortran CHARACTER objects dealing with "strings" of different length and the different relational operators (EQ here). Is this the call itself you complain about (the overhead of the call) or the efficiency of the code implementing for_cpstr() ? I don't see anything, the compiler could do better.
